Posted by Bob (bob at screenfreeze dot net) on January 26, 2006: So, Rice Rice Baby has been one of the constant things here in Think Tank. It's always been that place across from Relentless Records. And now, almost five years in, we finally get to see the inside of the joint. Of course, I was really stupid about this one, because Steve sent me the comic kind of late. I very easily could have made it a simple "the boys at the counter" comic, but I've done sooooo many of those, I figured I'd change things up. And by changing things up, I ended up drawing a brand new set of backgrounds of a place we've never seen before. So yeah, this one took a little longer than some of the others did. But, it also features a cameo by one of my favorite Asian ladies ever, so we've got that going for us. Which is nice.
I also think I reached a happy medium with the coloring technique on this one. It uses both the cut style I've been doing for a while and the painterly style I've been messing with a bit as of late. I just need to work highlights in there somehow and we'll be in business.
All right, let's see what I can find for you guys this week. First up, I've got this old commercial for Pitfall. Nothing special, right? Well, it does star a 12 year old Jack Black, so that's kinda funny.
I've linked to a couple 2D Zelda remakes/new games in the past, so how about this: Metroid Prime in 2D! It looks pretty promising, but I gotta say I had no problem with Metroid Prime being a FPS. It was a fucking phenomenal game, and I really enjoyed it. Well, except for the first hour or so, but I had Steve play through that, so it's all good. I still haven't played Metroid Prime 2 once yet, but well, I have it. So that's a start, right?
By the way, I think Steve still hasn't finished Metroid Prime, despite getting all the way to Ridley.
Here's a great countdown of games that have just run their course. They were good for a while, but then they just lost it. Personally, I think they did it just right by putting Sonic at number one, but I gotta ask. Where's Tony Hawk? I know the games tend to get rave reviews when they come out, but come on. The last really good one was either 3 or 4. I can remember a loooong time back Steve and I saying we were afraid that Tony Hawk would become like Madden. Instead of taking their time to make each game fantastic, they'd just rush another one out every year. Looks like we were right.
It's not always bad news with my posts. Here's a very inspirational post from a man who just passed 93 years old who knows he doesn't have much time left, and is very upset with that. It's nice to see that for a change. Most times when people get really old they get very bitter and angry that they're still around. It's nice to see that not everyone feels the same way.
Speaking of death, how about a game where you have to infect all of Earth with a deadly virus? Here's Pandemic, which looks pretty simple, yet managed to take a good 20 minutes of my life away.
And here's another game where the objective is to jump over the barb wire without removing your limbs.
I came across this, which has some highlights of an interview with Paul Reubens. He talks about not getting on Saturday Night Live, secrets during his show, but best of all, the possibility of a new Pee Wee Herman movie.
I've got one more thing before I go, and that's this. Being the total Bomberman nerd that I am, I gotta admit this looks like the coolest thing ever. I would love to play that. What do you think Liz? You up for some Bomberman?
