Posted by Bob (bob at screenfreeze dot net) on November 17, 2006: Hey gang. Normally, I try to explain where the idea for each comic comes from when I write my posts, but I'm not entirely sure how to explain this one. See, I had a couple different ideas on what we should do a comic about. One would flesh out Bob's backstory a little bit more. The other was a necessary shot at the Zune. So here I am, explaining to Steve how the Zune comic would go, and he says "Ok." A little while later, I get a comic about Mario Brothers. So maybe Steve can explain what happened there.
The guy in blue is supposed to be Shigeru Miyamoto, by the way. The other guy is just some random guy. I don't know who you'd pitch a game idea to at Nintendo. I do know that I did indeed pitch a game to them once. In the fourth grade, some friends and I had an idea about a food fight game, and we drew all the levels and the food and characters and such. The last boss was going to be Bart Simpson. So we had this whole elaborate thing planned out, and I got my mom to mail it to them. At this time, I can't remember if we mailed it to Nintendo directly, or if it was just Nintendo Power, as being fourth graders we really didn't know the difference. Well, it took a few months, but we ended up getting a response, which basically said they liked the idea and thanked us for our interest. It then went on to say "Thanks, but most of our games are developed in Japan. Keep playing with power!" Needless to say, they didn't make our game.
Actually, thinking about it now, that's not the only time I sent in shit to Nintendo. I also entered a Nintendo Power contest to design a Mega Man boss to be included in the new Mega Man game. I can't remember which game it was, but I created Arrow Man. I drew his level, I drew him, I drew his weapon. I drew Mega Man shooting his weapon after you beat him. Hell, I even drew out his attack pattern in the game. I got another letter on that one too. "Thanks for entering, but you lose." Ah well. Arrow Man just wasn't to be, I guess.
Anyway. On to the links. Have you ever thought to yourself, "I'd like to see 16,000 firecrackers blow up in 60 seconds." Yeah, me either. But when presented with a link labeled that? How could you pass it up? So here you are, 16,000 firecrackers blowing up in 60 seconds.
You know, I wonder if I spent eight thousand dollars at the iTunes store, would my woman leave me, or would she just ask me to burn her copies of the good stuff?
If anyone out there wants a 360, this may be something worth keeping your eye on.
Since Tenacious D has a movie coming out soon, here's a video of them singing with Andy Serkis, a.k.a. Gollum at a show from New Zealand. Why? Who knows, why not?
More bad news for Sony, it doesn't seem like many people plan to buy a PS3. Well, at least most Joystiq readers.
And now it seems like Gamestop employees are going to get fired if they buy a launch PS3, even if they already reserved it. Good luck getting good help at a Gamestop through Christmas. They're all gonna be pissy now.
But come on. For a system with power like this, I can see why you'd get all worked up over it.
I can't wait until all this launch fever dies down. Then I can link to some other news stories besides the PS3's troubles. So for now, I will close things out with a video of Mario doing movieimpressions. See ya in a week.
