posted by StevePosted by Steve on June 21, 2002: Well, here's the deal. I love Bitrate. When I first came across this comic, I laughed my ass off. Not only is that ceiling tile gag genius, but I too have had an encounter with a singing customer.

Me and an employee were working one night, when this guy came in and asked for "Superfly" by Curtis Mayfield. I showed him the CD, and then things started to get weird. First of all, he was waaaaaaaaaay to excited that we had the CD. "This is the shit!" and things to that effect were his comments. Then things jumped from weird, to disturbing.

So at this point, me and my co worker (a guy, who we'll call Mike for this story) were at the front of the store just BS'ing basically. Superfly man comes up to buy the CD, and Mike goes to the register to ring him up. Then, right in mid-transaction, with no provocation whatsoever from us, the guy just starts singing to Mike. And I dont mean he was singing out loud and Mike just happened to be there, I mean the guy was looking right at Mike and singing "Superfly" to him in this really high pitched voice. Now, the "creepy" factor might not transfer over if you're just hearing this story instead of being there, but trust me, it was more than a little uncomfortable.

Obviously, this was definitely going to make it into a script. So when I read the Bitrate comic mentioned above, i imagined that it was the same guy that just wonders the world singing songs to retail workers. So, I wrote up a script, got Aaron's OK, and here we are. Huge thanks go out to Aaron, not just for lettting us use his name and gag in a strip, but for just generally being a nice guy and not adding me to his ignore list on AIM. Thanks man.

This was also comic number three out of six in a row where I worked a Rage Against the Machine image into it. Seeing as Bitrate has gone totally AWOL, I think I'm gonna adopt that customer into the Think Tank fold. As far as I know, as of this writing, only one customer has ever made a repeat appearance in this comic. (I could tell you, but where would the fun be in that?) I think it's time for the black ninja to make a reappearance in the comics world, don't you?
