Posted by Bob on July 30, 2004: Hey all. Today's comic, as far as I know, wraps up the inagural Link story arc. I dunno yet, cause Steve hasn't sent me the script for the comic that will follow this one up. I like this comic...It's pretty much the idea I laid out to Steve when I said "Let's keep Link around." It's actually based on reality. Steve is definately the musical Rain Man of this crew. We were at his workplace one day, and I said something like "Yeah, I don't know the third song on Nirvana's first album..." and before I could finish the rest of my sentence, Steve busts out "About a Girl." I asked "That's it?" He said "I think so." So, I go clear across the store to where Nirvana's cds were located, and sure enough, the third track on Bleach is indeed "About a Girl." Steve and I have weird recollections like that. I couldn't tell you how to do a math equation, but damned if I'm ever gonna forget the Konami code.
I suppose I need to add Link and Colossus to the cast page, huh?
Big webcomic news today. Zach Miller, of the fabuloso No Pants Tuesday, has a new comic up and running! Just head on over to Joe and Monkey and give it a read. It'll be quick, cause there's only four comics up as of this writing, but at least bookmark it and keep reading it. THIS I COMMAND! LALALALALALALALALALALALALA!
So, Seth McFarlane (of Family Guy fame) has a new show coming out called American Dad. The trailer is up here, if you want to see it. I watched it, and umm...it really kinda sucks ass. Granted, you really can't expect something as good as Family Guy was, but I would have expected something that would at least make me laugh at least once. I watched this trailer just kinda wondering "is this gonna be over soon?" the entire time. Ah well. Maybe the full show will be better.
When you look too long into the abyss, the abyss looks back through you. Maybe it's time for Batman to return to the night that spawned him before anyone else gets hurt!* I have very very high hopes for this movie. Judging it on the trailer alone, I'm giving it high marks cause Christian Bale sounds a lot like Kevin Conroy, the voice of animated Batman. And we all know how I feel about that.
So, it looks like Sandy Collora, of Batman: Dead End and World's Finest is going to make a feature length movie. It should be cool, cause so far, it looks like he can make good looking scenes without relying on CGI. It should be interesting to see what he can pull off with a real script and a big budget. Not to mention he's got Guillermo Del Toro helping him. That can only be good.
At least we know the internet is full of dumb games for us all to play. Yep, there it is. How sad it it that the top score is usually a few days? Sigh.
While I was a little skeptical about the making of a live action Transformers movie when I first heard about it, I have a feeling the film will look a bit more "legitamate" in people's eyes, seeing as Speilberg's name is now attached. Granted, it's just in a production role, but at least we know Speilberg will be able to throw lots of money at it.
Two quick notes. If you're gonna see Spider-Man 2, see it in IMAX. Rocks. Socks. Off. And two, it's been like, twelve, fifteen years, and Tyson STILL rocks me in six seconds in Mike Tyson's Punch Out. Damn Kid Dynamite.
All right, that's about all I've got this week, so I'll be back in seven days. I'lll meet ya here, how's that sound?
*That's from the Batman animated series, yo.

Posted by Steve on July 30, 2004: New comic here. I hope you guys dig the punchline. I was watching Chasing Amy when I was writing the script, and when the song came on, I thought it was a nice way to end the comic.
Well, this is the part where I was gonna tell you guys how great ESPN NFL 2K5 is. For the most part, it is. The gameplay is pretty solid, the game looks great, and all the ESPN touches are really nice.
But, all is not well. There's some little problems, some glitches here and there, but for the most part, they're either pretty minor or stuff you can live with. The big problem is that in franchise mode, player progression seems to be at best random, and at worst completely fucking scripted. I've simmed out a few seasons, and it seems that certain players always progress well, despite what type of season they have, and certain players always regress or get minimal gains, no matter what kind of season they have. It might sound like a minor gripe to some people, but knowing that your 2nd year quarterback will never improve no matter how well he plays is a real killer for me. Maybe someone will release a roster update that fixes it or something. Hopefully. The game is still worth the purchase at it's insanely low price, but it's just aggravating how developers can't seem to get player progression right in sports games lately.
Oh, quick plug for Zach Miller, formerly of No Pants Tuesday and now of Joe and Monkey. Zach's a cool guy, makes good comics, and was really nice to us when we first started our comic, so check him out, ok?
Anyway, that's all I've got this week. See you next week.
