Posted by Bob on June 4, 2004: The eternal battle of Man vs. Machine continues here. In other site news, if you want any of our older wallpapers, now is the time to get them. We're gonna take down the top four, (Bob as Dr Frank, Steve in his Kung-Fu pose, Bob choking Santa, Bob and Steve Beating Santa) and the Joe in the Monkey mask one. They're not a good representation of our current work, and I think the bottom four new ones blow the old ones away, so it's time to move on. More than likely, they'll come down sometime next week, so get a move on! Hopefully, I'll have a new one ready for ya by then, depending on how work treats me. It's something you've seen before in the comic, but it's something I have always liked.
You know that one episode of the Simpsons where Maggie gets a hold of Mr. Burns' bear, and Burnsie wants it back? Then he offers Homer a lot of money, but Homer says no? And so Burns says Homer will eventually crack and give in? Then when Homer is watching tv, you hear a *crack!* and he pounces on the phone? You remember now? Yeah, that was a good episode. Anyway, I finally cracked. Amanda and I were in Gamestop, where I was informed by my girlfriend that she had never heard of, nor had she ever played the game Centipede. Then, I watched her play some Metal Slug 3 for a while. Then, I heard a crack. Next thing I know, I was paying for Custom Robo, F-Zero GX, Deathrow and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. On top of that, I found myself re-subscribing to Toilet Paper Monthly. Why? It was a buck, and I figured a dollar was a good price to give me something to ridicule for a year. I'm not terribly sure why I bought four games like that, but it turns out they're all really good. We got home, and proceeded to play Custom Robo for a good four hours straight. It's really fun. F-Zero gives a sense of speed I've never felt in a video game before. Ninja Turtles is a fun, albiet dated feeling beat em up, (And don't get me wrong, I love dated beat em ups,) and Deathrow is a weird sports/fighting hybrid. It kinda reminds me of the way the Mutant league games feel. Fun, fast paced with lots of violence for good measure. All in all, it was a good trip to the Gamestop.
So, if you hate spam email, you oughta check this link out. Pretty crazy stuff. It's weird; the internet has been around for quite a while, and I think that people don't realize that you can get in trouble for stuff you do on it. It's not like you're some anonymous name in an email, or an unknown person on a server. Whatever you do can be tracked. Be careful before you click send, kiddies.
Oh fuck yeah! Mark of Kri 2! If you haven't played the original yet, then by all means go and get it. You can probably get it for like, a buck now. Trust me, it's one of the more fun games on the PS2.
There's a lesson to be learned from this, I think. What that lesson is, I'm not totally clear on. All I'm gonna say is that it's not a good idea to give out video game advice over the phone while you're at work, I suppose.
Now, I don't wear Nikes, but damn if they don't have good animators. It's not a true Transformer without the "thhbbtt-thbbbt-thbbbt" sound. That's one of the best sound effects ever.
All right gang, that's all I've got this week. Remember what I said about the wallpapers, and I'll be back in a week. END TRANSMISSION!

Posted by Steve on June 4, 2004: I'm afraid I don't have much to add this week. Those new NES classic GBA games are out. Super Mario 1, Donkey Kong, and Zelda, each on it's own gba cart, each the original, unupdated version, each 20 bucks. I talked to Bob about it, and even being a world class Nintendo fanboy, I can't help but feel ripped off on this one. I mean, Mario 1, Donkey Kong, and Zelda on one cart for 20 bucks? Sure. Remade Mario, Donkey Kong, and Zelda on their own carts? Ok. But just slapping the originals on a cart each and charging 20 bucks? Now you're just ripping people off. I mean, maybe I can see paying 20 bucks for Zelda, with the second quest and all, but that's about it. I think these "anthology" type compilations are great, especially for people who have long since packed up their NES, Atari, etc. But come on, by themselves these just aren't full price games anymore.
That's actually about all I've got this week. There's a new Sonic Youth album out Tuesday, and I'm pretty sure the new Beastie Boys comes out the Tuesday after that. Check 'em both out. See you next week.
